Message from Department Chair
Welcome to South University’s Nursing program. The dynamics of healthcare in Florida and South Carolina make earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree a worthy goal. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor & Statistics, registered nurses constitute the largest health care occupation, with 2.4 million jobs. About 3 out of 5 jobs are in hospitals and registered nurses are projected to create the second largest number of new jobs among all occupations; job opportunities in most specialties and employment settings are expected to be excellent, with some employers reporting difficulty in attracting and retaining enough RNs. The National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice and the American Nurses Association recommends that two-thirds of the basic nurse workforce be prepared with a bachelor's degree or higher by the year 2010 to meet the increasingly complex conditions of today's patient care needs. At South University, we combine traditional classroom studies with interactive labs and practical experience to provide our students with an education that will prepare them to enter the nursing profession field. I invite you to explore our Web site and to visit our campus to tour our facilities and meet members of our outstanding faculty team. Thank you again for considering South University’s Nursing program. Sincerely, Priscilla Bartolone Department Chair South University Nursing Program
