Dan Coble, RN, Ph.D., President, South University - Tampa

Dr. Dan Coble serves as President of South University’s Tampa campus, offering bachelor’s level programs in Health Science and Nursing. He was named to the position in 2006.

Before joining South University, Dr. Coble served as Executive Director of the Florida Board of Nursing where he was responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating work related to the licensure of nurses and certified nursing assistants, regulation of nursing practice and other functions of the Board of Nursing.

Earlier in his career he served as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Tampa where he taught graduate and undergraduate nursing students, initiated an Honor Society for Nursing and revitalized a joint Master of Nursing/Master of Business Administration program.

Dr. Coble also served as Director of Patient Services, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Nurse Manager for Pediatrics and Staff Nurse in the Pediatric ICU at Tampa General Hospital. In addition, he has professional nursing experience in hospitals in New York and Pennsylvania.

He has served as a Fellow and member of the Leadership Development Committee for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, and is a member of the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives, Florida Nurses Association, American Nurses Association and various Nursing honor societies. A published author, he has written about the use of computers in nursing informatics and health care and conducted research in the areas of nursing decision making, informatics and discipline.

Dr. Coble received a Ph.D. in Nursing & Decision and Information Sciences from the University of Florida, a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from the State University of New York, Buffalo, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Regents College and an Associate of Arts in Nursing from Indiana University Southeast.
