Tami Stuart :: 2011, Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies, South University's Montgomery Campus
Tami Stuart rose to address her fellow graduates at the June 2011 commencement ceremonies for South University's Montgomery campus; it was one more experience she could not have imagined before she decided to enroll in the Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies program.
Storms were in Tami's life in the years leading up to her decision to pursue college as an adult. Some were figurative storms on a personal level, but one was a literal storm that blew her life onto an entirely different course.
"As a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005, Hurricane Katrina had an effect on me that I did not see coming," said Tami. "As adults, we are often set in our ways. But trust me, a few life-changing events can unset you real fast."

Ellen Wright :: 2010, Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies, South University, Online Programs
In July 2011, if you wanted a photo of everyone in the state of Georgia who could use the designation "Core Registered Paralegal," you wouldn't have needed a wide-angle lens, a set of bleachers and a ladder. Instead, you would have needed a photograph of Ellen Wright. Just Ellen Wright.
In June 2011, Mrs. Wright, who graduated from the Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies program through South University, Online Programs in February 2010, took the inaugural Paralegal Core Competency Examination (PCCE). Although 188 others across the nation took the exam, she was the only person in Georgia to pass.
The National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), one of the two nationally recognized professional groups for paralegals, developed the PCCE to assure employers of a basic level of education and skill.

Two South University professors, Denise Cecil-Van Den Heuvel, Ph.D., and Darlene Silvernail, Ph.D., have been named recipients of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) annual awards for 2012. Both professors, who are two of eight professionals nationwide to receive this year's awards, teach at the West Palm Beach campus.

Dedication of South University's Cleveland Campus
Chancellor South joined Ohio state senator Nina Turner, Campus President Behmer, and students, faculty, and staff to dedicate the Cleveland campus over the summer.
More than 150 members of the greater Cleveland community came to campus on a beautiful day to celebrate the occasion. Senator Turner, also a professor at Cuyahoga Community College, delivered a rousing speech, praising first-generation college graduates as "cycle-breakers" and underscoring the importance of the institutions of higher learning that serve them. Campus President Behmer and Chancellor South also spoke at the event.
Two television stations and several community papers were on hand to cover the event, which included community dignitaries such as Mayor Bradley Sellers of Warrenville Heights, Mayor Fletcher Berger of Bedford Heights, and John Hairston, the district director for U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge.
New Campus Announced in High Point, North Carolina
South University announced its expansion into North Carolina's Piedmont Triad with the addition of a new campus in High Point. With classes starting in January 2013, the newly constructed campus comprises more than 40,000 square feet of classrooms, labs, a library and office space. It is conveniently located just south of the intersection of I-40 and N.C. 68, at 3975 Premier Drive, High Point, N.C., 27265. The campus can accommodate nearly 1,000 students with space to expand.
"We are proud to bring South University's tradition of academic excellence to the Piedmont Triad, an area that values higher education and the benefits it can bring to students and the community as a whole," said Chancellor John T. South, III. "Our new campus will provide area residents with opportunities to help them achieve their personal and academic goals."
