The Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program are accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission for Physician Assistant Programs (ARC-PA, 1000 North Oak Avenue, Marshfield, WI 54449-5788; 1-715-389-3785. This accreditation status qualifies graduating students to take the national certifying examination administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). The Physician Assistant program is a member of the Association of Physician Assistants Programs, the national organization representing Physician Assistant education programs.

The Montgomery campus of South University is chartered as an educational institution in the state of Alabama, and is authorized under Act No. 80-272, Regular Session, Alabama Legislature, 1980, to conduct programs within the state of Alabama. The University is authorized by the State Approving Agency to train veterans under chapters 31, 34, and 35.
South University’s Columbia campus is licensed by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (1333 Main Street, Suite 200, Columbia, SC 29201; 1-803-737-2260) to award bachelor’s and associate's degrees and certificates. The Columbia campus is chartered by the State of South Carolina and approved by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, Veterans Education Section, for the training of veterans and other eligible persons.

Candidacy is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates the program is progressing toward accreditation.
