Pharmacy College Admissions Test

The Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) is offered in January, June and October. The PCAT is designed as an achievement test based on pre-pharmacy courses in biology (anatomy/physiology, general biology, and cell structure), chemistry (general chemistry and organic chemistry) and math (algebra and trigonometry, calculus). The PCAT also assesses basic skills involving reading comprehension verbal ability, and critical thinking.

You may prepare for the PCAT by reviewing coursework and studying preparatory books for the PCAT, which you can get at any major bookstore or on Amazon.com.

The test has two scores. One is a scaled score with a range between 200 and 600. This represents the number of questions that are correct, and are corrected for varying difficulty between exams. The percentile score ranges between 1-99. This score represents where the student scored in the pool of students taking the examination on the same date. The composite score is an average of all scores.

If a student receives a poor score, they should consider retaking the examination, with emphasis on areas of poorest performance. They should also consider taking PCAT preparation courses, or MCAT or GRE preparation courses.

If a student takes the PCAT more than once, South University will use the best composite score. The best composite score may not necessarily be the last PCAT taken. We will use the best PCAT scores in our admission determination, not the last. Repeated attempts show motivation and determination.

Students should take the PCAT as early and as often as possible, but no later than the Fall prior to the anticipated matriculation. The PCAT is also offered in January and March. The chart below lists the anticipated sites where students may take the PCAT
