Laptop Computer Requirements
All South University Doctor of Pharmacy students are required to have a laptop computer with Internet access and CD-ROM capabilities that meet University specifications. To ensure that students receive the highest laptop performance for cost, it is recommended that students purchase a new laptop just prior to matriculation into the program. Students may purchase any model laptop that meets the following specifications.
Minimum Recommended Computer Requirements For School of Pharmacy Students
Hardware
- Wireless Network Capabilities: built-in support for 802.11b/g (WiFi) or purchase of a South University-approved wireless networking card with 802.11b/g capabilities.
*02.11n is OK as long as B/G is turned on too
- Basic Printer for Home Use: exact brand and capabilities are up to student's judgment
- Laptop CPU/Memory/Hard Drive: Pentium IV 1.3 GHz or faster, 1024 Mb memory or greater, 40 Gb HD or greater
* Macintosh computers are OK, but we can only provide limited support
- Media/storage: CD-RW drive
Software
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional or higher (including Internet Explorer 6.0 with Service pack 1 or newer version).
- Applications: Microsoft Office 2007 or newer version (must have a version which includes PowerPoint 2007 or newer version) with Service pack 1. We currently use Office 2007. South University also provides Office through our software store at an educational discount price.
- Antivirus software with current subscription and/or Virus definitions.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0 or newer version
- Latest Flash player and Shockwave players for the online classroom.
