New School of Pharmacy for South Carolina

Friday, October 09, 2009 — Columbia, SC

South University announced today that the institution is opening a School of Pharmacy at their Columbia campus, which is in the Carolina Research Park located off Interstate Highway 77 at the Farrow Road exit.  The School of Pharmacy will offer an accelerated three-year Doctor of Pharmacy program (Pharm.D.) that is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). This is the third Doctor of Pharmacy program in South Carolina and received recent approval by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education matriculate students in June of 2010.

John Shupper, J.D., promoted to Chair for Legal Studies

South University announced today that Program Director, John B. Shupper, J.D., has been promoted to Chair of the Legal Studies Department. As Department Chair, Shupper will have responsibility for the Legal Studies program across the University system, as well as continuing to serve as Program Director for the Columbia campus. South University helps veterans offset educational costs by joining the Yellow Ribbon Program

Monday, August 03, 2009 — Columbia, SC

South University has been approved to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. As a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, in states where South University has tuition rates greater than the amount the GI Bill benefits cover, the institutions will voluntarily be able to provide tuition assistance to veterans to help offset all or some of their education costs.

South University awards 163 degrees

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 — Columbia, SC

South University will award 163 degrees on Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Koger Center for the Arts. With over 1,000 friends and family members present, Councilwoman Tameika Devine will deliver the commencement address. Graduates will earn degrees in a variety of fields ranging from Business Administration to Graphic Design. Over 50 graduates will be awarded Master of Arts degrees in Professional Counseling.

Nursing students get a start on their professional journey

Twenty-four nursing students were inducted into South University's first Student Nurses Association (SNA) Chapter on Tuesday during the Chapter's kick-off event organized by Program Director, Laurie Harden, RN, MN. All of the students received a SNA pin from Harden and shared something about themselves with their classmates. South University nursing faculty and select staff joined the students for lunch at the conclusion of the meeting.

Kauffman has been serving as Acting President since mid-January, after the passing of Anne Patton who was the founding President for the campus in 1999. On Wednesday, 15 Criminal Justice and Legal Studies students at South University learned first-hand about crime prevention and crime solving from Tom Lucas, President of the Spartanburg Crime Stoppers. He was the guest lecturer for the 10:30 a.m. Criminal Law course, which provides an introduction to the fundamental nature of law, with an overview of legal principles to develop and understanding of the historical development of criminal law in its contemporary form.
