Marta Urdaneta, Ph.D., was appointed new Program Chair of Healthcare Administration and Management for South University’s College of Business. Urdaneta holds a doctorate in Health Administration from the University of Iowa.
As chair at South University, Urdaneta oversees graduate and undergraduate curriculum in Healthcare Administration and Management across the six South University campuses, including all online programs. Urdaneta enters this new role at South University with a wide-range of experiences in healthcare management, program development, research and teaching.
“With her focused commitment to healthcare management and high level of energy, Dr. Urdaneta is a great addition to our administration,” said Steven Yoho, Ph.D., dean of the college of business. “Her expert leadership is enhanced by her dedication to students in the classroom and her outstanding academic and clinical scholarship.”
Urdaneta has published and presented on various healthcare management issues such as HIV treatment patterns, guidelines and cost trends in healthcare. Most recently, she co-authored a project on Radio Frequency Identification in Long-term Healthcare Facilities, which was presented at the Academy of Business Disciplines 2008 Conference in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Before coming to South University in Savannah, Urdaneta was Program Director for the Health Science program and Program Coordinator for the Health Service Administration program at Keiser University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where she was responsible for university community relations, curriculum development and assessment in addition to full-time teaching in both programs. She brings with her almost 10 years of experience in healthcare administration from a wide range of settings including, a nursing home, a family medicine clinic and The Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Iowa.
Urdaneta holds additional degrees include a Bachelor’s of Business Administration, a Master’s of Business Administration, a Master of Arts in Hospital and Health Administration from The University of Iowa.
