South University Names Michelle Liken, PhD, RN, CS Director of Nursing

South University has named Michelle Liken, PhD, RN, CS program director for its RN to BSN Nursing Completion program.
"We are excited to have someone with Dr. Liken's clinical experience and educational background leading our new nursing program," said Anne Patton, president of South University. "As we grow our nursing program, Dr. Liken will provide valuable leadership while ensuring our students receive the best education possible."
Prior to joining South University, Dr. Liken served as president of Chronos Care Consultants, LLC where she provided aging, mind and memory care services in the Columbia community. In addition, as president, she provided care management, legal nurse consulting and teaching and training.
Earlier in her career, she served as an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina's College of Nursing and as an adjunct faculty member at the McAuley School of Nursing at the University of Detroit-Mercy. As a nurse, she has served as a Gerontological clinical nurse specialist, a supervisory nurse and patient care coordinator and a home health care nurse. She has also served as a registered nurse at Lansing General Hospital and St. Lawrence Hospital. She has also served as an adjunct nursing instructor at Midlands Technical College.
Dr. Liken received an associate degree in nursing from Lansing Community College, a B.S. degree in Nursing from the University of Michigan-Flint, a M.S. in Nursing from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
She is a published author having authored and co-authored numerous industry professional papers and articles and has given numerous presentations. She is a Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nursing, a Certified Care Manager and is licensed to practice as a RN in Michigan and South Carolina. She is a member of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers, the South Carolina Geriatrics Society, the South Carolina Gerontological Society, the Gerontological Society of American and Sigma Theta Tau.
