Student society at South University's School of Pharmacy earns national recognition

South University's student chapter of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacy (SSHP) has been recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) as an official ASHP chapter. The student chapter met multiple criteria, including the promotion of membership in local, state, and national health-system organizations; the development of activities to stimulate interest in health-system pharmacy careers; and the completion of one or more professional development projects to encourage career and professional development.
Kimberly Tackett, PharmD, assistant professor in the department of pharmacy practice, serves as advisor to the 63-student chapter at South University. The chapter's featured project focused on raising public awareness of heartburn and included information on both the signs and symptoms of heartburn and its treatment. Part of the project included a live on-camera heartburn screening during WTOC's Mid-Morning Live with Sonny Dixon and Jody Chapin.
"The student chapters promote inclusive professional development," said Dr. Tackett. "Being a part of an organization that is open to pharmacy practice across the entire health system, we ensure that our students can maximize their opportunities for personal growth and life changing professional opportunities."
South University's School of Pharmacy is one of three accredited institutions in Georgia to offer the degree of Doctor of Pharmacy program.
