South University names Bruce Chong as Assistant Vice President of Marketing

South University has announced the appointment of Bruce Chong as assistant vice president of marketing. In this position Chong is responsible for leading the integrated marketing efforts for South University. He will work closely with campus presidents and admissions to develop and implement effective marketing activities to support the mission and goals of the university in each community it serves.
Chong joins South University from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where he was dean of communications for the past nine years and was responsible for media relations, marketing and advertising as well as print, Web site, presentation and television production.
"As South University grows, we need to evolve our marketing practices to ensure we are reaching those students who will benefit the most from our programs and our student-focused model," said John T. South, III, chancellor. "We welcome Bruce to the university, and I am certain that each one of our campuses will benefit greatly from his experience and skills in higher education."
Chong's accomplishments at SCAD include building national recognition and media placements, including CNN, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek and the Newsweek/Kaplan college guide. Under his leadership the communications department was recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, CASE, with a Grand Award and Circle of Excellence Awards, won multiple local and regional ADDYs, received a Webby award, two Telly awards and several Admission Advertising Gold Awards.
Chong is a member of the Search Engine Marketing Professional Association, SEMPO and the American Marketing Association, AMA. His previous community involvement includes the board of the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club and the Asian American Journalists Association and its leadership program. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from San Diego State University.
