Recently, the Board of Trustees of South University approved the creation of two new colleges, the College of Nursing and the College of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, the board approved elevating both the School of Health Professions and the School of Business to become the College of Health Professions and the College of Business. The School of Pharmacy will retain the School designation.
South University is poised for period of substantial growth, and the creation of these colleges prepares the institution for the anticipated complexity of the operation and sustains the university's commitment to high quality education. As South University increases its program offering, the new structure will ensure that we remain strong and responsive to the needs of the students in every community we serve.
"This is a milestone in South University's history," said John T. South, III, chancellor. "I have to credit this achievement to the dedicated faculty and staff that have served our students and this institution, from its humble beginnings in 1899 to the five-campus and online institution that it is today."
The College of Nursing will include the following programs: Master of Science in Nursing, RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion and Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The College of Arts and Sciences will include General Studies, Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Behavioral Sciences.
The College of Health Professions will include Medical Assisting, Physical Therapy Assisting, Health Sciences, Physician Assistant and Anesthesiologist Assistant.
The College of Business will include Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration and Information Technology.
Each college will be led by respective deans. The university has begun a nationwide search for deans for the new colleges of Nursing and Arts and Sciences. These founding deans will be charged with leading and growing program offerings for both online and on ground students, furthering South University's long-standing focus on student success, and ensuring that the principles of critical thinking are propagated across their respective curricula.
"The academic structure of the university is now positioned to administer the growth of the programs in each college across multiple campuses," said O. Joseph Harm, Ph.D., system vice president of academic affairs. "The changes we are making today are designed to bring the right areas of study and specialties together and to lay the foundation for the expansion of our program offerings. As South University continues to flourish, the new structure improves our ability to serve students, and so it makes sense for the university."
