South University will award 272 degrees this Saturday during the university’s winter commencement held at 11:00 a.m. at the Marriott Riverfront hotel. For the third time in the university’s more than 100-year history, administrators, faculty and staff will gather with students and their family and friends to celebrate a winter commencement, which have become necessary to keep pace with the growing enrollment. The university’s ground campus enrollment grew 35 percent and enrollment in the online programs more than doubled over the past two years.
President and CEO of the United Way of the Coastal Empire, Gregg Schroeder, will serve as commencement speaker. The Dean of Academic Affairs and Operations, Dr. Robert Bohman, will present the graduates to President Candace Goodwin. A commencement reception hosted by university officials to mark the special occasion will follow.
“I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to these graduates and my appreciation for our faculty,” said Goodwin. “The level of commitment is impressive, and I hope these graduates pursue their dreams with the same tenacity as they have pursued the goal of earning a college degree.”
Four years after the launch of the online program, South University will award 207 degrees to graduates of that program. Graduates are traveling from all over the country to Savannah to participate in the commencement and have earned master’s degrees in fields such as criminal justice and nursing and bachelor’s degrees in business administration and information technology, among others.
For the first time, South University’s College of Business will hold a hooding ceremony at 9:00 a.m. for the 51 graduates earning master’s-level degrees in Criminal Justice, Business Administration and Business Administration with a specialization in Healthcare Administration.
