SAVANNAH, Ga. - March 16, 2009 - South University was awarded the prestigious Caring Cup by the United Way of the Coastal Empire for four consecutive years. The Caring Cup is a recognition award that the United Way of the Coastal Empire gives to one school in each of these five categories: Elementary, Middle, High Schools (public), private schools and Higher Education.
South University and its employees pledged over $23,000 which reflects a 7.6% increase over the previous year. The campaign was extended to students, for the first time, who raised over $400 in donations.
Candace Goodwin, president of South University – Savannah, acknowledged the impressive work initiated and supported by the United Way.
“I am proud of South University’s support of the United Way,” said Candace Goodwin. “The faculty and staff in Savannah are among some of the most generous people I have had the privilege to work with and I couldn’t accept this award on their behalf without recognizing their commitment to this community.”
President and CEO of the United Way of the Coastal Empire, Gregg Schroeder, presented Goodwin with the award in February, after the results for the 2008 campaign were finalized.
