South University will award 163 degrees on Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Koger Center for the Arts. With over 1,000 friends and family members present, Councilwoman Tameika Devine will deliver the commencement address. Graduates will earn degrees in a variety of fields ranging from Business Administration to Graphic Design. Over 50 graduates will be awarded Master of Arts degrees in Professional Counseling.
"I am looking forward to this commencement because, as a newly named campus president, I will have the privilege of addressing the graduates, and their family and friends for the first time," said Brad Kauffman, president of South University. "I am optimistic about our graduates' futures and know that their lives will be better because of the commitment they made to pursuing a college education and earning their degrees."
About Councilwoman Tameika Devine
Councilwoman Tameika Devine is a founding partner in the law firm of Jabber & Isaac, PA, where she practices in the areas of real estate, probate, and business. Mrs. Devein is the first African-American female to serve on the City Council, the first African-American person to be elected At-Large and the youngest person ever to sever on the Columbia City Council.
She is in her second term as a member of the Columbia City Council, where she continues to work diligently on numerous projects. Mrs. Devine is co-chairperson for the Workforce Initiative Project (WIP), a program designed to teach unemployed and underemployed city residents construction, carpentry, and masonry skills. Mrs. Devine is also leading the reorganization of the city courts systems and is involved as a liaison between the municipal judges and the City Council. She earned her undergraduate degree in Business Management from Hampton University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
