South University names Brad Kauffman president for Columbia campus

Thursday, March 26, 2009

South University named Brad Kauffman as Campus President for the university’s location in Columbia. Kauffman has been serving as Acting President since mid-January, after the passing of Anne Patton who was the founding President for the campus in 1999. Kauffman has been with South University as the Registrar and Dean of Student Affairs since February 2002.

“Mr. Kauffman has demonstrated leadership throughout his 7-year tenure with South University,” said John T. South, III, chancellor of South University. “The Columbia campus has grown significantly, recently exceeding 1,000 students, and he met the challenge every step of the way. He leads by example, making his students and their success his number one priority.”

His higher education career began in 1998 when he began working as a graduate assistant in the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience at the University of South Carolina. He also taught University 101 and completed practicum work in the University of South Carolina’s Student Discipline department and in the Education Talent Search department at Midlands Technical College.

“I am looking forward to continuing the tradition that Ms. Patton established here in Columbia,” said Kauffman. “Everyday this campus welcomes our students, who choose South University because we offer something different; everyone knows each other here, and we support our students so they become alumni who make sincere contributions to the Columbia community in business, criminal justice, design, law and health care.”

Kauffman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Retail Management and a Master of Education in Student Personnel Services from the University of South Carolina in 2001.

Established in 1899, South University is a private academic institution dedicated to providing educational opportunities for the intellectual, social and professional development of a diverse student population. South University offers educational programs at the associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels with campuses located in Columbia, S.C.; Montgomery, Ala.; Savannah, Ga.; Tampa and West Palm Beach, Fla.
