Monday, June 01, 2009
Michael Crouch, Pharm.D., Chair of the South University School of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmacy Practice, was designated as a Fellow by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Only 32 health system pharmacists received the title this year, bringing the total number of Fellows to 619.
"Dr. Crouch's contribution to the profession is substantial," said James E. Wynn, Ph.D, Dean of the School of Pharmacy. "His qualifications are exceptional, and there are few pharmacists who possess his expertise in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy. We are proud to have him at South University's School of Pharmacy."
The ASHP works to promote public awareness of outstanding pharmacists. The criteria for the designation of Fellow include a minimum of 10 years of practice in a health-system pharmacy, contributions to the scientific literature, research, education, and active involvement and leadership in professional activities.
As Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, Dr. Crouch leads the pharmacy practice curriculum. His teaching research focuses on the use of technology in and out of the classroom. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He also completed two years of postgraduate training, including a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and a Medicine/Cardiology Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina.
