South University named Kate Sawyer, MLS, to Director of University Libraries. The need for the position is indicative of the institution’s double digit growth over the past year. Sawyer, who most recently worked as a system librarian for Lincoln Educational Services, brings with her nearly 20 years of experience.
“Our libraries are part of the essential services we provide students,” said O. Joseph Harm, Ph.D., system vice president for academic affairs. “The program offering and enrollment have grown so much across our five campuses and online in recent years that the university libraries require centralized leadership. The book collections, the academic databases, and the research services must grow to meet our students’ needs and to keep pace with our innovative program designs.”
Sawyer developed information literacy curriculum and led the collection development efforts for the 34-campus system of Lincoln Educational Services. Her work experience also includes the Pittsburgh Technical Institute and the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute. She is member of several national cooperative networks for librarians and the American Library Association.
She earned her bachelor of science degree in English and education from Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y., and a master of library science and information technology from the State University of New York, in Albany, N.Y.
