South University celebrates the Class of 2010

South University will award 48 degrees during spring commencement at St. Lawrence Catholic Church’s Higgins Hall on Thursday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m. The Tampa campus opened in 2006, and the 48 graduates in the Class of 2010 represent its third graduating class. Thirty-eight graduates are earning bachelor of science degrees in Nursing, and ten graduates are earning associate of science degrees in Physical Therapist Assisting (PTA). Ronald T. Rotella, the Executive Director of the Westshore Alliance will address the graduates, their family and friends.

The ten PTA graduates represent the university’s first class of students, who enrolled in 2008 when the program was launched. South University’s PTA program is one of 15 programs in Florida that is accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association.

“Each graduate in South University’s Class of 2010 has a promising future,” said Dan Coble, RN PhD, president of South University – Tampa. “The demand for qualified and well trained health care professionals continues to grow, and these graduates will improve the lives of many people in our communities by working at local hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and anywhere they choose to apply their expertise.”

About Ronald T. Rotella

Ronald T. Rotella is the Executive Director of  the Westshore Alliance is a business-based, membership-drive organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for the nearly 100,000 employees that call Tampa’s Westshore District their working home. 

Prior to joining the Westshore Alliance, Mr. Rotella served the City of Tampa in a variety of roles culminating as director of the Department of Housing-Inspection and Community Services. From 1995 to 2003 he also served as a special consultant to Tampa Mayor Dick Greco.  

In addition to his responsibilities with the Westshore Alliance, he currently serves as Tampa Mayor Iorio’s appointee to the Citizen’s Advisory Committee of the Tampa Bay Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA). He is president of the Westshore Community Development Corp., a private non-profit corporation focused on providing affordable workforce housing in Westshore and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. 

Mr. Rotella received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a Minor in Economics from the University of Tampa.
