South University is expanding its campus on Vaughn Road, on the east side of Montgomery, by adding a new two-story, 18,000-square-foot building on the 3.75 acre campus. Construction began in late August and is targeted for completion in June 2010; the university plans to begin utilizing the new the new space beginning in summer quarter 2010.
“The popularity of our programs means that we have simply outgrown our existing 26,000 square-foot building,” said Victor Biebighauser, president of South University. “We had 600 students this summer, which is double the number of students we had in 2003 when we moved from our previous downtown location to Vaughn Road.”
The addition includes 7 classrooms, 2 computer labs, 3 science labs, and 23 work spaces for faculty and administration. Currently, South University offers 15 programs in such areas as business administration, physical therapist assisting, legal studies, criminal justice, and professional counseling.
