South University Introduces Two Master of Business Administration Programs in West Palm Beach; Classes Scheduled to Begin January 2007

Thursday, December 14, 2006

South University is introducing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and an MBA in Healthcare Administration at its West Palm Beach, Fla. campus. Classes for both programs are scheduled to begin Winter Quarter - Jan. 13, 2007.

"The university has made major strides in revamping its business programs to provide courses of study that not only address today's business challenges, but feature top faculty with experience in both University-level business programs and corporate America," said John T. South, III, chancellor of South University. "Prior to launching this new program, we benchmarked other successful MBA programs from around the country and also spoke to major corporations about their needs to focus our MBA students on the areas where they can make an immediate impact once they graduate. Our goal with these new master's degree programs is to not only provide a high-quality education, but to provide an education that equips graduates with the skills they will need and use in the real world. Our hope is to develop future leaders who want to make a significant contribution to the business community."

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) and MBA in Healthcare Administration are both 48-credit hour programs designed to provide students with a process-based curriculum versus the standard functional-based curriculum. Unlike many traditional MBA programs that view organizations as a collection of marketing, operations and finance silos, South University integrates these functional areas in the same holistic approach patterned after today's most successful organizations.

"Future leaders in business will have to be masters of all areas of business, not just one or two," says Dr. Riggs. "Our approach to the MBA is to put our students in real-world situations where they are combining concepts and not working on marketing one quarter and then move onto finance the next. You won't find that in business, so why would we teach that way?"

South University's approach provides a firm grounding in economics, decision making, behavioral sciences and strategic environment. The core presents a cross-functional approach to the long-run and short-run decisions that must be made to deliver goods and services to customers. Students may choose a specialization, but will receive a core foundation of training based upon South University's model.
