South University - Tampa Celebrates Inaugural Commencement Ceremony

TAMPA, Fla. - June 25, 2008 - South University - Tampa will award 29 Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees during its inaugural commencement ceremony at Higgins Hall at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church on Thursday, June 26, at 6:00 p.m.

Patricia Dittman, RN, Ph.D., assistant professor and graduate program director of nursing at Nova Southeastern University, will present the commencement address. She is a registered nurse and a certified diabetes educator. Additionally, she has been the gubernatorial appointed chair of the Florida Board of Nursing.

"Congratulations to this inaugural class of 2008," said Dan Coble, president of South University -
Tampa. "The nursing shortage continues to be a challenge throughout the state of Florida, and I have high expectations that our graduates will improve the lives of many people in our communities by working at local hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and anywhere they choose to apply their expertise."

The commencement will include a pinning ceremony, where each graduate will receive a South University nursing pin and a rose to commemorate their entry into the profession of nursing. South University - Tampa opened its campus in June 2006 and offers bachelor's degree programs in Health Science, Nursing, Healthcare Management, Business Administration and Psychology, and an associate's degree program in Physical Therapist Assisting.

South University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award doctoral, master's, bachelor's, and associate's degrees (www.sacs.org). The South University - Tampa Nursing Program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
