South University has appointed Susan Davis, Ph.D., chair of the College of Business and program director in Columbia, S.C. Davis comes to South University with an impressive 30-year track record replete with corporate and higher education experience.

Before coming to South University as the new Business Department chair, she served on faculties of Bethune Cookman University, Claflin University, Columbia College and the University of South Carolina in the areas of management and finance. Davis’ corporate experience includes budget analysis, financial management and accounting services for companies such as Eastman Kodak, Mellon National Corporation, Whirlpool Corporation and the Fischer Scientific Company.

“Adding Dr. Davis to South University’s College of Business has proved to be a great benefit,” said Steve Yoho, Ph.D., dean of the college of business. “In her short time here, she has already begun to integrate a multiple stakeholder view of how we need to grow the department of business administration. Dr. Davis has demonstrated a capacity to work on new initiatives and improve existing processes, and both are resulting in a better student experience.”

Davis has a Ph.D. in organizational management from Capella University where she specialized in Leadership and Human Resource Management. Throughout her extensive career in education and management, Davis has produced and presented works on effective business leadership, management, entrepreneurship, as well as the process of identifying core values that can improve the economic profiles of small business owners. Davis has also led research to study the role and advancement of women as entrepreneurs. She has specifically reported findings about financial literacy and other special issues affecting female entrepreneurs in the 21st century.

Davis earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Rochester with a concentration in Finance and Economics.
