South University gears up to Help Our Neighbors during the National Week of Service

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) April 16, 2009 — South University's faculty, staff and students will team up in a broad effort to Help Our Neighbors in during the National Week of Service April 19 to 25, 2009. The faculty, staff and students at South University are no strangers to community service. Since its inception, South University has been actively involved to community outreach with various projects ranging from hosting health fairs for wheelchair-bound area residents to collecting toys for and volunteering at the Salvation Army.
During the National Week of Service, the South University will assemble a team of volunteers to help America's Second Harvest of the Coastal Empire food bank on Friday, April 25. The food bank must sort the donations and then package them into transportable sets for distribution to local shelters and soup kitchens.
"Helping our neighbors is part of the South University's culture, and participating in the National Week of Service is a great way to show our commitment to service learning," South University President Candace Goodwin said. "I think it is easy to forget what a difference we as individuals can make. The National Week of Service is a real reminder of just how much we can do, when we all work together and when we all find some way to give back."
