Message From the Dean
From the Desk of James E. Wynn, Dean, School of Pharmacy
Thank you for your interest in the pharmacy profession and South University's School of Pharmacy. South University is a private academic institution with campuses in Savannah, GA; Columbia, SC; Montgomery, AL; Richmond, VA, and Tampa and West Palm Beach, FL. The University, through its dynamic faculty and students, has continued to build a reputation for its commitment to excellence in education. The School of Pharmacy is no exception.
The South University School of Pharmacy is located in Savannah, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina and is housed in facilities constructed expressly for the School of Pharmacy. South University's Doctor of Pharmacy program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. Our focus is on providing current and prospective students with the education designed to prepare them for the demands of the pharmacy profession.
Pharmacists are recognized among our nation's most trusted and respected professionals. An environment of diverse expanding career opportunities has increased the demand for highly-qualified graduate pharmacists in careers other than the traditional role in community and hospital pharmacies. The pharmacy profession has been on an upward trend in recent years, and expectations are that the future of pharmacy will be even brighter as the profession evolves and pharmacists assume an even more significant role in assisting in the medical treatment of patients*.
The inaugural Doctor of Pharmacy Class began in August 2003 and since that time, the University has continued to receive increased interest from applicants from the United States and other countries. Enrolling in our progressive full-time, 12-quarter doctoral program, designed to be completed in only three years, allows an earlier entry into a professional career versus a conventional four-year program. Our goal is to respond to the need for degreed pharmacists by providing this innovative academic experience intended to expedite the education of outstanding potential practitioners in the pharmacy profession.
Today, the competitive, but rewarding environment that has been established provides students with an outstanding educational foundation while focusing on real-life clinical experience. This combination of classroom and clinical work has proven to be a valuable experience for students and employers alike. Attracting top students from across the U.S., an outstanding location in historic Savannah, and with continued interest from applicants from around the world, the doctoral degree program at the South University School of Pharmacy has quickly become a first choice for many of those wishing to enter the pharmacy profession. We invite you to explore our Web site and of course, visit us in Savannah or Columbia anytime.
Sincerely,
James E. Wynn, Ph.D., R.Ph.
Professor and Dean
