Dr. Charlotte Hamilton shares the benefit, and the beauty, of a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree.
My name is Dr. Charlotte Redding Hamilton and I am the Department Chairperson for the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at South University.
The first part of our curriculum it's theory based. They're learning about psychopathology, diagnostics of psychopathology, theoretical approaches and foundational approaches. Then we allow our students to take part in a clinical experience, which they're in the field and they're working alongside a site supervisor and then they actually get a case load where they're working with clients themselves.
Once a student graduates with their Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling they can get an entry level position in addictions, residential treatment facilities, community mental health agencies. They can actually work in schools as a mental health counselor. So the field is open. To know that you can help transform someone's life from a hurting situation, suffering situation to becoming more fulfilled and more at peace is absolutely fantastic and it's fascinating.
