South University’s West Palm Beach campus traces its history to 1983 when South University (then South College) acquired Ft. Lauderdale College – Lake Worth. The 32,000-square-foot campus totals three buildings located at 1760 North Congress Avenue. The campus had a Fall 2010 enrollment of 946 and a Spring 2011 enrollment of 881 students with over 100 faculty members. Approximately 25 percent of students are pursuing associate's degrees, 65 percent bachelor's degrees, and 9 percent master's degrees. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). In addition, most states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
Effective April 1, 2017, ACOTE changed the accreditation status of the Associate of Science degree offered by the OTA Program on the South University-West Palm Beach campus to Probationary Accreditation for noncompliance with ACOTE Standard A.5.6 (certification exam pass rate). The program remains accredited; ACOTE has requested that the OTA Program submit a Progress Report based on the Plan of Correction to return the program to full compliance with ACOTE Standard A.5.6 within the mandated time period for correction, by April 2018.

South University, West Palm Beach anticipates matriculating its first class in Summer 2017, pending achieving Accreditation-Provisional status at the March 2017 ARC-PA meeting.
Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.
There is no guarantee the Program will receive Accreditation-Provisional status. Should the program not gain accreditation, the class anticipated to matriculate in Summer 2017 will receive a full refund of any deposit, fee or tuition payment paid to South University, West Palm Beach.
