When Adrienne Hampton decided to further her nursing education, she first chose a traditional classroom setting at a local University. But, she quickly decided an online education would be a better fit for her.
“I was at a local University in my first semester of the Family Nurse Practitioner program taking three classes at a time and feeling overwhelmed. I was looking for an alternative route with less courses per semester, so I contacted the admissions counselor [at South University] and the rest is history,” Hampton explains.
Hampton is a practicing nurse at a Florida hospital, and wanted to earn a degree that would allow her to expand her knowledge of elderly patients. So she enrolled in South University, Online Programs’ Master of Science in Nursing with a Specialization in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse program.
“I can truly say that during my experience at South University I have only encountered positive, encouraging, intelligent, and professional staff who want their students to be successful. The professors that I have been assigned all had virtual office hours, and although most are practicing practitioners/professionals, they were always available by text or email throughout the day and responded to my messages/request in a timely manner.
“The online courses have been challenging but knowledge enhancing as well. I have learned discipline and have decreased my test anxiety through weekly quizzes, our midterms and final exams. Moreover, the Practicum experience has exceeded my expectations by allowing me to apply what I have read, researched, and studied into practice,” Hampton said.
Programs, credential levels, technology, and scheduling options vary by school and are subject to change. Not all online programs are available to residents of all U.S. states.
