“I think it's my ambition that continues to motivate me, despite difficulties or obstacles,” says South University, Online Programs student Leslie Cetta. “I understand how important education can be.”

For Leslie, who is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management, her academic goals are driven not only by career ambition but also by a love of learning, a desire for personal growth and a hope that she will serve as positive example for her son. “He needs to see how important an education is, how pushing yourself to achieve your goals can be rewarding, and most importantly, how to persevere even when things get difficult,” she says.

Currently, Leslie works as an Administrative Operations Manager at a pathology lab, where, after earning her bachelor’s degree, she may next be eligible for the Director of Operations position. “South University is helping me grow towards my career goals by providing me with the education and information I need to continue to advance in the medical field,” explains Leslie. “I am able to apply what I have learned in the classroom to situations in real life, and I have already seen a difference in the way I handle various scenarios at work.”

As a single, working parent, Leslie finds the flexibility of South University, Online Programs invaluable. Of her academic experience, she says, “I have enjoyed the interactions in the classroom, and the professors have been wonderful.”

According to at least instructor, Donald Peace, an adjunct faculty member in the College of Business at South University, Online Programs, the feeling is mutual. “I am very proud to have had someone of the caliber of Ms. Cetta in my classroom at South University,” he says. “In the classroom, she offered insightful discussion and promoted dialog that assured me that she was knowledgeable about the subject matter at hand.”

Leslie is also a member of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars and the National Association of Professional Women. In 2015, Leslie was awarded a South University Path to Graduation Scholarship from the Education Foundation. While Leslie will apply the award toward paying down her student loans, the recognition is what’s most important to her and what continues to motivate her to finish what she’s started. “To me, it means that my hard work, effort and dedication have been recognized.”
