Private Education Loans Overview

Private alternative education loans are offered by private lending institutions and are not subsidized by a government agency. Alternative education loans are not to be used as a substitution for federal financial aid loans. Alternative education loans are intended to provide additional funding for your education after all federal loans are sought.

Application for all alternative loan programs can be done on-line directly with the lender of your choice. Should you choose a paper Self Certification Form to begin your application, please click here. The Financial Aid Office can help with any questions you might have, including information on the Cost of Attendance and what loan amount you might need when filling this form out.

Georgia residents may be eligible for a new low interest state sponsored loan through the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFA), called the Student Access Loan. For detailed program, eligibility, and application information, please click here.

Applications are accepted and processed through GSFA and are accepted during a limited timeframe only, specified by GSFA. The Georgia Student Finance Commission will accept a second round of applications for the Student Access Loan Program starting Sept. 23. Students must apply for all other types of financial aid first, including PLUS loans, but not including other private loans. Students must accept all aid (other than private loans) offered to them before accepting any Student Access Loan. Students are randomly selected by GSFA and notified by email along with further instructions.
