Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration, September 2012
South University, Savannah
Project Manager, United WebWorks, Inc.
Sticky notes and dry-erase boards dot Bree Makaravage’s new office at United WebWorks, and a half-full energy drink is close at hand. As project manager, it is Bree’s job to keep things moving at the growing Savannah web design, development, marketing and hosting company.
Energetic, confident and professional, Bree found South University when she and her husband moved to Savannah in March 2011. She knew she wanted to finish school, and the Savannah campus, located just a couple miles from Hunter Army Air Field, was a convenient option.
Location was not the only reason Bree chose South University to finish her Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration degree, which she completed in just 15 months.
“I earned my associate’s degree in business at a really small school in Michigan, so I knew that for me, personal relationships are very important,” said Bree. “I was looking for that in a school because I think it’s worth it to do it that way.”
Bree says that her professors were very available to her, whether in person, through email, or by phone. And because she communicated with them directly so often, she learned quite a bit about how to communicate effectively and efficiently in the business world, skills that serve her well in a job where she interacts with clients all day.
Soon after Bree graduated she was excited to read a job posting sent to her by Gus Thompson, the director of career services at the campus, for a position at United WebWorks.
“I was reading through the posting saying to myself: I can do that, I’ve done that, I can do that,” Bree remembers. “So it seemed like a good fit.”
Bree also knew that her résumé was not up to date, but true to form, Bree did not dally. Gus helped her revise it that evening, and she applied by 6 a.m. the next day. She interviewed and accepted the position soon after.
Andrew Reilley, United WebWorks' founder and Chief Experience Officer, told Bree that her résumé was the first one in his inbox.
“I had been in touch with Gus, who took the time to understand what we were trying to accomplish,” said Reilley. “Once I interviewed Bree, the decision did not take long. I knew she was the one to hire.”
Reilley is pleased with Bree and his experience with South University. In fact, he has asked Bree to work with Gus to hire an intern for the growing company.
And after about five weeks on the job, Bree is happy, too. She spends most of her time making sure United WebWorks clients have what they need from the company, and that the work is delivered on time and on budget.
“I really like what I do here. I get excited to come to work.”
