Today we’re featuring student Edgar Collier who found South University when he was having trouble with his job search. “I now understand that it is important to have a degree to advance in a career,” says Edgar.
Below is the letter of thanks Edgar submitted to his Academic Counselor and then agreed to share with the community.
My name is Edgar Collier, Sr. I am a candidate to graduate from South University with an Associate of Science in Business Administration this year (2013). My current profession is Warehouse Maintenance Technician III for the Mississippi Dept. of Revenue, Warehouse Division. My responsibilities include maintenance of building and ground repairs and supervising four employees. I am also a licensed electrician.
My long term goal is to own and operate my own electrical installation service in which I have had an excellent start, and now I have a better understanding of how to manage it from a business aspect. I am very excited about getting my degree. The courses that I have taken have been a great enhancement to my current profession and surely will open up new opportunities for me in the future.
My graduation team has been great, asking questions to make sure that I understand everything and that I have the necessary tools that I need to move forward. I would like to thank you and all faculty members at South University who have helped to make it possible for me to complete my degree.
We’ll leave you with some advice from Edgar for new students: “Be ready to stay in front of the computer and stay focused on work. When it seems stressful, take a short 30 minute break, relax your mind and then come back to it. You will complete the program before you know it!”
