At the 2023 South University’s online programs commencement ceremonies, twins Abigayle and Amanda Lahman had a lot to celebrate! Abigayle and Amanda were both honored for earning a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with a specialization in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
The newly graduated pair are excited for each other and for how having these degrees will allow them to continue growing their nursing careers. “I chose to further my nursing education to transition from working bedside in a critical care setting to working in preventative healthcare,” Abigayle explained. “Obtaining a board certification* as a Family Nurse Practitioner will allow me to provide this care across the lifespan.”
Likewise, Amanda has had the goal of becoming an FNP since she first attended nursing school. “I've always wanted to practice advanced care while sticking to my nursing roots,” she said.
The pair found South University through the recommendations of friends and colleagues. After doing research individually, they came to the same conclusion. The flexibility of South University’s online MSN FNP program was exactly what was needed for their busy lives. As students, Amanda and Abigayle valued not only the education they received in their online classes, but also the support, encouragement, and guidance of the faculty and staff.
“South University gave me the tools and the ability to complete my degree online and to train in the community I grew up in,” Amanda shared. “Although I was in an online program, I never felt I was alone in this. The advisors were always one click or phone call away. This program and its advisors have supported and guided me from the beginning.”
For current students, each of the twins had encouragement to share. “The years you'll spend learning and growing will only make you a stronger person and allow you to reach your goals,” Amanda said. “The peak is worth the climb!”
“Stay focused,” added Abigayle. “Graduation will come, and you will be so glad you invested in yourself.”
For Amanda and Abigayle, getting to attend school and now walk in graduation together has been an incredible experience. They both expressed their love for each other and joint pride in all they’ve accomplished.
“My twin sister has been my number one cheerleader and we will both be graduating as nurse practitioners,” Amanda said. “We made it!”
