Meet BSN Graduate Nikisha Clouden, RN
Nikisha Clouden is an accomplished nursing leader who is deeply committed to patient-centered care, mentorship, and professional excellence. Building on her prior credentials as an LPN and CNA, Nikisha earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from South University, Tampa in 2015. In 2025, Nikisha returned to the Tampa campus to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Family Nurse Practitioner, which she hopes to complete in 2027. Nikisha’s Current Nursing Career
Nikisha works as a Charge Nurse with USFTGP Provider Group in an acute outpatient pediatric setting. Nikisha also gives back to her community by joining public health and volunteer programs. In her main role, Nikisha uses her clinical expertise to triage patients, manage (in-person or telehealth) care, interpret diagnostic results, and create treatment plans. She is also passionate about patient advocacy and giving patients and families the knowledge to take control of their health.“Gratitude from patients or their families, as well as colleagues seeking my guidance, consistently reaffirm my decision to pursue this profession,” she says. “Such moments are just as significant as any formal recognition.”
At her job, Nikisha collaborates with interdisciplinary peers on various quality-improvement initiatives. “Since graduating, my career has continued to evolve in ways that reflect both my clinical experience and my passion for leadership,” she says. “I’ve taken on roles that allow me to support patients across the lifespan while also mentoring newer nurses and contributing to a stronger, more collaborative clinical environment.”
Her South University BSN and MSN Experience
Nikisha chose South University for her BSN and MSN programs because of its comprehensive academic and clinical training. “South University distinguished itself through its reputation for supporting practicing nurses, its adaptable structure, and its focus on advanced clinical reasoning,” she says.“The FNP program appeared to be a logical progression in my professional development, enabling me to broaden my influence beyond direct patient care and serve patients and their families with greater depth.”
As an MSN FNP student, Nikisha has learned to think as an advanced practice provider. She’s built strong connections with classmates who share similar challenges and goals. She's also refined her clinical judgment with help from her teachers. “The encouragement from faculty, particularly during the more challenging courses, has served as a reminder of my potential,” she says. “I am proud of my accomplishments thus far, and I am equally enthusiastic about future prospects. This program will challenge you, yet it will also influence your growth in unforeseen ways.”
Advice for Other South University Nursing Students
Nikisha says being organized, inquisitive, and willing to seek help from faculty, peers, or your support network is essential as a nursing student. Celebrating small wins can keep you in the right mindset as well.“There will be periods that seem overwhelming, particularly if you are managing work, family, and educational commitments. Consistency outweighs striving for perfection,” she advises. “Every discussion contribution, late-night study, and clinical hour contributes to shaping the professional your future patients will trust and rely upon.”
