The Readmissions Process

The admissions team oversees the readmission process for South University, and they are ready to guide you through the process to help you get back on track with your degree.

The readmission process depends on how long you've been away from your program.

Please note that you will need to meet the most current admission requirements and program standards, which may have changed since you were last enrolled. This could mean you have to retake certain courses or meet new requirements for the program.

For more details on the readmissions process, review the academic catalog and speak with your Admissions advisor or academic counselor about any changes.

Transferring from Another College

To begin the transfer process, submit your official college transcripts to our admissions team. They will review your coursework for applicable transfer credit toward your chosen program at South University. You may transfer up to 75% of your eligible credits1 toward your degree.

The transfer evaluation process can be completed in as little as three days. Once it is finalized, you will be assigned a Financial Aid Advisor and an Academic Counselor, who will support you throughout the enrollment process.

1At South University, Richmond and Virginia Beach campuses, up to 70% of credits can be transferred.

Internal Transfer Process

Students wishing to transfer between South University campuses must be in good academic standing. The Registrar’s office will review your transcripts for eligible transfer credit to ensure your academic progress remains and you will resume pursuing your degree as soon as possible.

Transfer Policies

For comprehensive details regarding transfer policies for specific programs, please refer to the academic catalog.

In general, academic credit may be awarded if:

  • Courses were completed at an accredited collegiate institution.
  • Coursework is equivalent to courses offered at South University or meets distribution requirements.

All coursework is evaluated for current relevance; outdated material may not be eligible for transfer. University credit is not granted for developmental courses, such as basic Mathematics or English.

Credits from accredited technical colleges may be transferred only if they are equivalent to courses within South University’s degree programs, including associate degree programs.
