Christoper Lewis, BSN student at South University

Even while he was growing up, Christopher Lewis was attached to the idea of a healthcare career. “I always have had that passion and love to help others,” he shares.

As a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)* student at South University, Savannah, Christopher is working to make that plan of helping others become his profession. He is also a 2023 graduate of the Associate of Science in Allied Health Science program through the same campus.

“[By working in healthcare], I can help others achieve their goals, no matter how big or small the goals might appear, from helping my patients walk up the steps to helping my patients run a marathon,” he explains. “I will do everything in my power to help those around me not only achieve his or her goals but peak at his or her goals.”

When picking a school, Christopher felt drawn to South University in part because of the people he met on campus and its friendly, welcoming environment. “I love how small the campus is,” he says. “At South University, everyone is like a small but extended family.”

In the Allied Health program, Christopher built a strong foundation in the life and health sciences. In the BSN program, that knowledge is expanding as Christopher learns about providing holistic, evidence-based nursing care to individuals, families, and communities.

“South University successfully prepared me for always being on my toes and adaptable. I’m learning how to think critically while providing and displaying leadership skills,” he says. “I am prospering and growing as a student and also as a person.”

Reflecting on his time as a student, Christopher admits that some days are easier than others, but he is committed to putting in the work needed to become a nurse. While he can be his own worst critic, he also strives to be his biggest motivator. His mantra is that if you want something, you have to go get it.

“Learn, re-learn, have that passion, and understand that it is okay to feel not okay, but it is not okay to flat-out give up,” he advises his fellow students. “Embrace it all, learn from your mistakes, and more importantly, grow from your experiences. With enough pressure, you either form a diamond or dust. ”
