Dr. Jessica Truscott is South University’s Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and has received the Unsung Hero award as part of Brazos Monthly’s Citizen of the Year finalist. Just as she dedicates herself to supporting South’s students, her support extends to her local community, who nominated her involvement and activism, especially with LGBTQ+ youth.

When Truscott discovered she was queer herself in her adult years., she looked to find a community in her area. She found the Brazoria County Pride organization where she joined, and in April of 2022, she took on the role of executive and operations director. As director, she helps facilitate activities and appearances for Brazoria County Pride events, working to help LGBTQ+ children and teens find a sense of community and belonging.

She is honored to be nominated, and hopes her efforts will help integrate LGBTQ+ people into the broader community in Brazoria.
