In April 2025, anesthesiologist assistant students from South University’s Anesthesia Science (MMSc) program hosted their 10th annual Chili Cook off for Lifebox, an organization dedicated to bringing safer anesthesia processes across the world. South University has been supporting Lifebox since its founding in 2011.
The event brought together students, faculty, friends, and family to raise funds to provide for safer anesthesia care. The event raised over $15,000, which will support Lifebox’s distribution of Smile Train-Lifebox Capnographs and Lifebox Pulse Oximeters to providers in need around the world, impacting countless patient lives.
Inspired by South University’s ongoing support and success, the Anesthesiologist Assistant Chili Cook Off for Lifebox has become a peer-to-peer fundraising challenge, now joined by programs at Emory, Indiana University, NEOMED, Ohio Dominican, and Case Western Reserve.
We are incredibly grateful for the students’ dedication, energy, and hard work that made this amazing achievement possible. Together, students are making surgery safer—one bowl of chili at a time.
