Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration

One of the principles that formed the Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration program at South University, Virginia Beach was the philosophy that healthcare leaders require strong business competencies and management skills to lead teams and organizations through whatever challenges might arise. As such, the healthcare administration degree program combines an MBA with a specialization in healthcare administration to cultivate leadership skills and focus those through a healthcare lens.

You have the opportunity to learn important skills such as business analysis, long and short-term decision making, behavioral sciences, and growing a strategic environment. The healthcare administration degree also includes capstone courses specific to the healthcare field. The healthcare administration program focuses on preparing graduates to interpret the knowledge in healthcare management principles and content, evaluate the impact of healthcare policy and law on the delivery and services provided by the industry, integrate market research with strategic planning in healthcare, assess managerial and leadership challenges in healthcare, and demonstrate the ability to communicate and present information that is concise, clear, organized, supported, and persuasive in a professional manner appropriate to the healthcare industry.

The MBA in Healthcare Administration program is taught in a hybrid format. The hybrid format includes online coursework and on-campus sessions held one Saturday per course. This combines the independence of online study with the face-to-face aspects of campus classes.

South University, Richmond, and South University, Virginia Beach, are certified to operate in the Commonwealth of Virginia pursuant to Title 23, Chapter 21.1, §23-276.4 of the Code of Virginia by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (James Monroe Building, 101 North 14th St; Richmond, VA 23219; 804-225-2600; www.schev.edu).

Admission Requirements

Admissions criteria for the Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration (MBA-HCA)

Graduate Admissions - Masters level

Prospective students are required to submit the following:

Completion of application for admission
Official transcripts for bachelor or graduate degree within 5 weeks of the class start date (refer to Conditional Acceptance). (All credentials earned outside the United States must be evaluated by a NACES or AICE-member credential evaluation service). Please speak with an admissions representative for more information.

Note: See program notes and specific requirements below for each graduate - masters level degree program

Specific requirements for admission to classified graduate status are:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- A 2.0 overall grade point average or higher on completed requirements for the baccalaureate degree, or an earned graduate degree from an accredited institution.
Or South University Doctor of Pharmacy students with a Pharm.D cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher who are approved for concurrent enrollment in the MBA-HCA program are eligible to enroll in classes after completing 120 hours of coursework, i.e. after Pharmacy Quarter 4.
