Lyesha Gaines

South University graduate Lyesha Gaines is a shining example showing that a college degree can open multiple doors* and does not limit you to one job (or industry) your whole life. Lyesha graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management from South University, Savannah. After earning her degree, Lyesha worked as an Education/Career Specialist for a mental health agency for several years before changing industries and working as a contact representative for the Department of Treasury. In 2023, she was promoted to Revenue Officer within the Department of Treasury.

“I’ve learned to embrace all opportunities and challenges that are given to me. I always make an effort to learn all that I can,” Lyesha shares.

Lyesha chose South University’s Healthcare Management program because she had always had a passion for healthcare and an interest in business. This program allowed her to study and gain knowledge in both areas. “South University challenged me and provided me with the tools for success,” she states. “They had qualified professors who encouraged me to strive for excellence and think outside the box.”

While at South University, Lyesha participated in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and in Delta Mu Delta, an international business honor society. She also built close relationships with her faculty and peers. “I would tell anyone considering attending South that they will have a great support system and develop friendships that will last a lifetime,” she says. “The faculty and staff were always available for guidance. I still have contact with faculty members.”

As Lyesha thinks about her future, she is optimistic about the possibilities for her professional career. Through perseverance and hard work, she is confident she will achieve what she sets out to do.
