Meet South University OTA Grad, Arwa Hamed

“I chose occupational therapy because of a personal experience with a loved one, which inspired me to help others,” explains Arwa Hamed. Arwa is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) dedicated to empowering people to regain independence, confidence, and purpose in their daily lives. She graduated from South University, West Palm Beach in 2018 with an Associate of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant.

“This school prepared me for my career through knowledgeable professors who provided expert guidance and by offering valuable resources that supported hands-on learning and skill development,” she shares. “These experiences gave me the confidence and tools needed to succeed in occupational therapy.”

Balancing Family, Work, and School

That convenience was valuable with her busy schedule. Learning how to juggle it all helped Arwa develop her time management skills and overall resilience, both of which she still uses today.

“As a mom of four, balancing family life while working part-time and pursuing my goals was far from easy but with perseverance and purpose, I made it happen,” she says. “I’ve reached where I am today through hard work, dedication, and unwavering discipline.”

She encourages others working toward their degree at South University to focus on similar principles. “Stay dedicated and embrace every challenge as an opportunity to grow,” she advises. “Remember, perseverance and a positive mindset will carry you through even the toughest moments.”

The Power of a South University Education

As a South University student, Arwa encountered numerous faculty and staff who would play a crucial role in her growth and success. “Their expertise, encouragement, and genuine support created a positive learning environment where I felt valued and motivated,” she says.

“My education has been transformative, equipping me with the knowledge and skills to make a real impact in people’s lives,” she adds. “It has deepened my understanding of occupational therapy and strengthened my confidence to face challenges in my career.”

Opening a Clinic

For Arwa, the highlight of her career has undoubtedly been opening her first clinic in Lake Worth, Florida. The clinic, Culture & Wellness Therapy, LLC, specializes in physical and occupational therapy, as well as lymphedema treatment. Arwa works closely with each of her patients to help them overcome physical and emotional challenges, improve their quality of life, and reconnect with the activities that bring them purpose and joy.

Her future goal is to expand by opening additional clinic locations throughout Florida, with the mission of reaching and treating more individuals in need. “I’m committed to making quality, compassionate care accessible to as many people as possible and making a lasting impact in the lives of others,” Arwa says.

“Whether helping adults adapt after injury or illness, or supporting older adults in maintaining their independence, I approach every session with empathy, patience, and a problem-solving mindset,” she adds. “I believe in the power of small victories and the resilience of the human spirit.”
