American Nurses Association Nurses Month Placcard

May is Nurses Month and South University is always excited to celebrate the nursing community, including our many alumni, students, and faculty in the field.

In our nursing programs, there has been plenty to celebrate over the last year. South University, Columbia was 1 of only 4 higher education institutions in South Carolina where graduates achieved a 100% NCLEX pass rate for 2022. Elsewhere, at our Savannah campus, we expanded our program offerings to serve more students with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Meanwhile, our Orlando location celebrated the first graduates of its BSN program. And those examples are just the first few that come to mind!

In honor of the American Nurses Association National Nurses Month and National Nurse Week (May 6-12), we wanted to share not only these accomplishments but also recognize the hard work and impact of our students, faculty, and recent graduates whose stories we’ve been lucky enough to be part of.

See How Our Nursing Students and Faculty Are Active in Their Communities

The contributions of nurses to our society are invaluable, and we’re proud to see our nursing students impacting their communities in so many ways, even outside their day jobs. Here are just a few recent examples of their contributions.

Interacting with Local Youth
This year, our West Palm Beach campus launched a project to help youth from economically challenged areas to learn about the health professions and our programs. Middle school students visited the campus and spent time in the Nursing, Physical Therapy Assistant, Anesthesia Assistant, and Physician Assistant labs, where they interacted with our faculty, staff, and students.

Providing Health Education and Services
South University, Austin Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) students recently gave a presentation about high blood pressure at a Texas public library followed by a free blood pressure reading for all attendees.

Volunteering for Meaningful Causes
Our Richmond campus BSN students, faculty, and staff cooked a hearty lunch for the patients and their families at The Doorways, an organization that provides lodging and support for patients and their loved ones who need to be close to the hospital.
