Awilda Theodore

After working in healthcare for over a decade, Awilda Theodore was passionate about the field but she craved work outside direct patient care.

To help her pursue her goals, Awilda decided to continue her education*. While searching for schools online, Awilda found South University. The program options were exciting, and the staff members were friendly and helpful. She spoke with admissions, completed an application, and enrolled in classes.

“I wanted to do more than just one-on-one care but also use my knowledge and skills to manage and train others,” Awilda shares.

From the beginning to the end of her time as a student, Awilda says South University faculty and staff were an excellent support team. They were caring, encouraging, and always willing to help. In 2021, Awilda earned her Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management from South University, West Palm Beach. She enjoyed her bachelor’s degree program so much that she decided to continue on to pursue a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), which she completed in 2023.

“It is a very good school with an outstanding curriculum, and the course studies really prepare you for the career,” Awilda says. “The knowledge and skills gave me a better understanding of management, how to run a company and what to expect, and how to use critical thinking methods and ways of solving issues.”

Outside of South University, Awilda became certified in Adult Mental Health First Aid through the National Counsel for Mental Wellbeing in 2023. She had previously earned certification in Basic Life Support and as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Florida. Today, Awilda works in administration for Retirement Unlimited Inc. The company manages over 50 senior living communities in the eastern United States, providing the perfect opportunity to apply her new skills.

Congratulations to Awilda on her professional and academic accomplishments!
