Meet Two Recent Medical Assisting Graduates
A medical assisting degree may be the right fit for those seeking an entry point into the healthcare field. Today, we’re highlighting two 2026 South University graduates who earned their Medical Assisting degrees and are excited for what’s ahead!Why Study Medical Assisting at South University?
Jayla Benson, who earned her Associate of Science (AS) in Medical Assisting from South University, Columbia in 2026, heard about the university from a family friend after graduating high school. After learning about the program, she decided to commit to her education.“I’ve always had a natural instinct for taking care of others,” Jayla says. “Knowing I could do that and make a change and do God’s work was something that pushed me to this career field.”
Natalie Ann Willard earned her AS in Medical Assisting at South University’s online programs in 2026. For her, the online format was vital. “I chose to go because South University made it so easy for me to fulfill my goals while holding another full-time job, which I had to keep to be able to pay my bills,” Natalie explains. “They made the whole process easy from the beginning with getting registered and applying for and receiving financial aid. It was the easiest decision when I realized how clinicals and everything would work.”
The South University Experience
As both Jayla and Natalie look to their future, they are confident in their skills in medical assisting and thankful for the support they received from faculty and staff members.“They gave me all of the necessary tools to perfect my skills in my career field,” shares Jayla, who has now started her job search for a role as a pediatric medical assistant. “The staff’s dedication, hard work, and commitment were the whole reason for me never giving up.”
“The counselors and professors were easy to reach and get answers for any issues that I faced. They cleared up any issues I faced in no time at all,” adds Natalie, who has already started a job as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) at Louisiana Stat Care, where she also did her externship during the program. “South University provided me with the necessary classes, instruction, and training that were essential to have the knowledge I needed to triage patients and fulfill all my duties as an MA.”
Final Advice for Getting Your Degree
For students working toward their goals, Jayla has these words of encouragement: “Keep pushing because it will definitely pay off in the end!”If you’re considering South University and especially learning online, Natalie’s advice is likewise straightforward. “Just do it!” she says. “I would like to reach out to the single moms and older students to assure them that their dreams and goals can be reached. It is never too late, and the online program really is a game-changer!”
