As an international award-winning author and poet, LaDonna M. Cook draws heavily on her expertise in counseling and her experience as a certified life coach to inspire and empower others through her writing.
Throughout her life, LaDonna has always been someone people turned to for comfort and guidance. To increase her impact and ability to support others, LaDonna decided to earn her MA in Professional Counseling at South University.
"My education has made me more in tune with others and their life experiences. I always wanted to be in a position to help individuals move forward in life," says LaDonna, who publishes under the name LaDonna Marie. "South University equipped me to identify behavior patterns and to work with individuals on creating plans to learn more about themselves and get the help needed."
Since self-publishing her first book in 2010, LaDonna has received more than a dozen awards and much acclaim for her writing, including the 2018 Divas of Colour International Author of the Year award. In addition to her own books and poetry collections, LaDonna’s work has been featured in multiple poetry anthologies and magazines.
"I use my poetry to shed light on issues of sadness, brokenness, relationships, life experiences, love, and spirituality," she says. "I love to empower others and share my story of growth and awareness. Life is a journey and you have to choose each day your path. My path is to motivate this generation and to share my love and positivity with all."
When she’s not writing, LaDonna shares her insights through radio, tv, and blog interviews, public speaking engagements, and seminars and workshops. She also offers mentoring and life coaching for youth and adults. Through it all, she utilizes the lessons learned at South University.
"South University impacted my life in numerous ways, from the phenomenal staff and faculty, who helped me to believe in and challenge myself, to my amazing peers in my cohort, who became lifelong friends," she says. "My time at South University was the best. The faculty and staff encouraged us to excel in all areas of our lives, and it pushed me to be a better person and counselor."
