Meet Bridgett Kelly, 3-Time South University Business Graduate

Brigett Kelly has earned two business degrees from South University, a BBA and an MBA. A single parent to three children, Bridgett Kelly found one aspect of South University’s programs particularly attractive: its flexibility. Balancing motherhood, work, and personal responsibilities already demanded much of her energy, and Bridgett wanted an institution that would understand that reality. “As a single mother of three, I needed real flexibility to balance school and family responsibilities,” she says.

South University, Columbia offered her that opportunity, and she embraced it fully, earning three business degrees from 2006 to 2021. Today, she operates and owns an in-home care business, Loving Me More Being a Better You LLC.

Choosing a Future in Business: From Student to Entrepreneur

Bridgett comes from a family of entrepreneurs and chose to study business so that she could follow in their footsteps. Her hope was to build a better life and a legacy not only for herself, but also for her children.

Bridgett’s first step was to earn an Associate of Business Administration in 2006. Years later, Bridgett decided it was time to build on that knowledge base. She wanted to learn how to streamline operations, build sustainable strategies, and navigate the legal and structural aspects of running a business. Bridgett returned to South University, Columbia, completing her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 2019 and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2020.

The understanding and responsiveness of her instructors helped Bridgett stay focused and on track toward both degrees. While she was nervous about being a nontraditional student balancing motherhood and school, their mentorship reinforced her belief that she belonged in the academic space and helped her to excel across her programs.

“The faculty and staff at South University had a significant impact on my personal and professional growth,” Bridgett shares. “They provided guidance, support, and encouragement throughout my journey, which helped me stay motivated during challenging times.”

The knowledge and skills Bridgett gained in the BBA and MBA programs have become the foundation for her new business and entrepreneurial success. In 2024, Bridgett launched Loving Me More Being a Better You LLC, which provides in-home care services. She has also recently expanded into new ventures, including DNA testing services.

Advice for Pursuing Your Goals

If you have goals you want to achieve, Bridgett’s advice is straightforward. Stay committed. Stay focused. “Life can become overwhelming, especially when balancing school, work, and family, but consistency is key,” she says.

“The flexibility the school offers can be helpful, especially for nontraditional students like working parents, but success really depends on your discipline and how you apply what you learn,” she adds, reflecting on her experiences at South University. “Take full advantage of the knowledge being offered and apply it to real-life situations whenever possible.”
